This exploratory project aims to draw attention to the role played by front-line employees of betting shops when considering the enforcement of ‘responsible gambling’ regulations. The project aims to examine the potential for harm to cashiers, managers and customers in the creation of ‘safer gambling’ spaces, and to consider the contradictions and issues within policies that place the onus of harm reduction on front-line employees.
The project has three research objectives:
- To explore and understand experiences of employees working in betting shops.
- To investigate the potential for harms to employees working in betting shops.
- To explore employee understandings and negotiations of interpreting and enforcing regulations set by the Gambling Commission.
